Recessed lights to suit your decor

Hello, my name is Anita. Welcome to Paulmann's World of Light on YouTube. Have you ever looked at recessed lighting but then not dared to take the plunge?

Today I am going to explain 5 lighting situations with recessed lighting. Let's get started.

Many recessed lights can swivel

Recessed lights have many different uses. They can be used in furniture, the kitchen, the living room, the dining area and, of course, the bathroom. They suit every decorating style.

I also recommend having recessed lighting in rooms with low ceilings, as they can be integrated flat and flush into the ceiling. This gives you the flexibility to arrange them based on your lighting requirements.

Many recessed lights can swivel. This means you can direct the light wherever it is needed.

accent downlighting
For accentuated lighting, like at our dining table, it is best to choose a slightly narrower beam angle of 25°.

Lighting situation 1

The first lighting situation I want to show you works particularly well with recessed lighting. Here you can see a light zone with directional light. This contrasts with room light, which would provide illumination for the entire space.

The light in this case hits a defined area, as it does here with the dining table, thus accentuating it. The rest of the room is more subdued. This provides structure and depth. Using room light would create a sterile, less cosy atmosphere.

My tip: If you dim the lights above the kitchen counter, you can eat your dinner without a view of the mess in the kitchen.

When lighting a workspace, like our kitchen unit here, you should choose a beam angle of 30-40°.

Exciting light effects are important for creating balance in the room.

My tip: You can achieve effects like this by directing the light at walls or pictures. As you can see, recessed lighting lends itself particularly well to direct lighting.

Choose a beam angle of approximately 40°-60° when using directional area lighting for walls.

If you want to draw attention to a picture or object, the ideal beam angle depends on how big the object is.

Lighting situation 5

You can use recessed lighting to create a unique atmosphere. To do this, dim your light in the evening and make sure that it glows rather than illuminates. The room light must not be too bright, otherwise you will quickly lose the comfortable atmosphere.

And one more small tip from me: If you use a particular area for working during the day and relaxing in the evening, recessed lights that can be dimmed work especially well.

Installing them is actually easier than you think. Watch Jens' video. He explains how to install them.
